The Hunger Games! :D
The Hunger Games is a young adult novel written by Suzanne Collins. It was originally published on September 14, 2008, by Scholastic. The novel is the first book of The Hunger Games trilogy. It is written in first person and introduces sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where the countries of North America once existed. The Capitol, a highly advanced metropolis, holds absolute power over the rest of the nation. The Hunger Games are an annual event in which one boy and one girl aged 12 to 18 from each of the 12 districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery to compete in a televised battle in which only one person can survive.
The Hunger Games film is due out on March 23rd and stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, Liam Hemsworth as Gale, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, Elizabeth Banks as Effie, Lenny Kravitz as Cinna and Donald Sutherland as President Snow. Gary Ross is directing and the sequels are also due to have films made of them, with Mockingjay possibly being split into two films.
So I thought we should have a thread to discuss this highly successful book, soon to be movie, franchise. Are you excited? Are you happy with the casting choices (full casting can be found here)? Who is your favourite character? Do you even like the series?

Personally, I wasn't happy at first, as some movies ruin books *coughEragoncough* and, as I love the series so much, I was really concerned.
My worries went from bad to worse when they started casting. I was happy with Peeta, Effie, Rue, Thresh, Octavia, Venia, Flavius, Portia, Caesar, Prim (ish) and more. But I was not satisfied with Katniss, Gale, Cinna, Haymitch, Foxface etc. They weren't how I pictured them and I really didn't like who they had picked.
Until I saw the trailer and I saw them acting. And now I really only have a problem with Gale xD No. Just no.
The film itself looks really good and exciting and I think Gary Ross and the crew have done themselves proud. As for the sequels, BRING THEM ON. I'd love to play Johanna (even though it probably will never happen xD)- I love her character and it would really be a dream come true!
Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favour!

- Spoiler:
- Went to see it yesterday...SOOOOO much better than I thought it was going to be. Even Liam Hemsworth was ok (except he's too old)! I thought the best performances were given by Stanley Tucci, Wes Bentley and Willow Shields, although I did think everyone else did a great job (EXCEPT FOR CINNA- IT WAS JUST WRONG. ALL WRONG D: ). Jennifer Lawrence made a great Katniss, which is something I never thought I would say and I knew Josh Hutcherson would make a good Peeta anyway. xD
The other tributes were all really good but they didn't get enough screen time- particularly Rue's death. It was too rushed over and we only got to hear one verse of the song. It wasn't sad enough!!! Although the riot in District 11 was a nice touch. That was more sad than Rue dying in my opinion!
Alexander Ludwig was good as Cato and Levin ambin was good as Glimmer. Clove was alright and I don't think her death scene was as true to the book as it could have been. Neither was Marvel's- I WANTED TO SEE THE ARROW GO THROUGH HIS NECK, NOT HIS CHEST D:
The look of the film was amazing, although in general the film was too quick. The bit where they were on fire was only about 30 seconds long. And I would have liked to have seen some more of the tribute's costumes and the interviews.
So, overall, IT WAS AMAZING. BUT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH BLOOD OR SCREEN TIME FOR SOME OF THE CHARACTERS. And Lenny Kravitz was awful. xD

Re: The Hunger Games! :D
Just read an article online about the Hunger Games...and the racist comments people have been posting on Twitter. People have been complaining about the casting of Thresh and Rue, who are both played by black actors, and have been boycotting the film purely because of this! They say that they shouldn't be black, when they are actually dark skinned in the book! The same happened with Lenny Kravitz and yeah, ok, Cinna isn't black and so he wasn't what we were expecting but he was awesome in the film AND WHY SHOULD IT MATTER ANYWAY?!
God I hate racism- IT MAKES ME SO MAD.

WHAT??? D:
This is what it says on the Hunger Games wiki:
So why on earth are they complaining???Suzanne Collins has stated that Rue is African-American with thick dark hair, dark satiny brown skin and "golden eyes".
And I've seen people saying Jennifer Lawrence was too fat to play Katniss...I mean, WHAT THE HELL? What's wrong with people?
